love is love

If, by one simple act, you could bring happiness and celebration to millions of people at no cost to yourself, would you do it?

On June 24, 2011, the New York State Legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo did.  They voted to pass the Marriage Equality Act, which legalized same-sex marriage.  One month later, on July 24, 2011, New York began issuing marriage licenses to the same-sex couples across the state.  I visited the City Clerk on Manhattan to watch and film the celebrations that day.

Watch (preferably with headphones):

I've lived in a state where gay marriage was legalized, and then that right was subsequently taken away.  It brought me and many of my friends – gay and straight – to tears.  If you believe that a man who loves a man or a woman who loves a woman should be treated just like a man who loves a woman and vice versa, then please visit the links below and consider donating to or volunteering for these causes.  Because if there's one thing I saw that day in front of the City Clerk one month ago, it's that love is love.
